So i’ve been on the hunt for a female boa these last few weeks. I would rather rescue than buy from online shops and so have been searching the areas near me for snakes. I recently came across a man selling a beautiful female albino boa and I was really excited until I looked at the description and found out that she is housed all year long with a male red tail. If that wasn’t the first red flag, the aquarium that the two boas live in seems small and filthy, there are quite a few pictures of them outside wandering in a field, and they have the weird chippy pine stuff as bedding!
I‘m really torn on what to do. If I decided to adopt, I do have a reptile vet in town that I could take the snakes to, some money that I could use to buy a bigger enclosure(s), and I would love to help these two out. On the other hand, I have experience keeping snakes (ball pythons) but no experience with sick snakes, and I‘m concerned about how much money it will take to get them healthy/comfortable.
Should I buy them and try to nurse them back to health? Can I contact someone to take them? I’m really not sure and my heart aches for these poor babies. Neither look very unhealthy in the pictures, but I have yet to see them up close.
This is time sensitive so I would really appreciate some quick answers!
